I first came across “The Killer Angels” when I was in late elementary school and was getting into re-enacting. I loved the movie Gettysburg and when I found out it was based on this novel, I had to read it.Fast forward a few years and I had bought the book and read the other two several times, I still knew that I wanted to make sure I had them anytime, anywhere.This is the perfect trilogy to get people into history by giving life to the characters and events. You can easily relate to them all and it places you in some of the most pivotal moments of the war and our country as a whole.If you’ve never read them. Buy this trilogy and start today. You’ll be hooked and won’t be able to put it down. I've read two other books by son Jeff, one about Bragg and the events around Chattanooga, the other Sherman and the Georgia campaign. The Bragg book was poor, the Sherman book okay. Having read those, I didn't have high expectations of G&G and Last Full Measure, so I wasn't disappointed. Actually G&G the book was much better than "G&G: The Life of Times of Tom "Stonewall" Jackson" the movie. Son Jeff devotes pretty much equal time to Hancock, Chamberlain, Lee and Jackson and his battle chapters are very well done. Having read Killer Angels a few decades ago, I liked it much better this time, although the last day seems to develop pretty slowly... much like the movie attack. So I rate G&G 3.5 stars, KA 4 stars, LFM 3 stars for a combined average of 3.5.
